Francis Guez - Fusilier Marin N°4 Commando Sword Beach 6 juin 1944

Here is a French Sailor from the N°4 Commando, know as the "Commando Kieffer". The N°4 was partly made (2 and half Troops) of French sailors. Those 177 men under the command of Philippe Kieffer (beside the French SAS dropped above Brittany during the night) where the only french troops on the ground on D-Day. The British commander of the unit made a great gesture by letting the Commando landing the first on the beach. The mission of the N°4 Commando was to take the Ouistreham "Casino" strong point and to join the paratroopers at Pegasus Bridge.
